The Perfectly Imperfect Match
By: Kendra C. Highley
Release Date: June 10, 2017
Source: ARC from Entangled Publishing
Goodreads Summary: Pitcher Dylan Dennings has his future all mapped out: make the minors straight out of high school, work his way up the farm system, and get called up to the majors by the time he’s twenty-three. The Plan has been his sole focus for years, and if making his dreams come true means instituting a strict “no girls” policy, so be it.
Lucy Foster, needlepoint ninja, big sister to an aspiring pitcher, and chicken advocate, likes a little mayhem. So what if she gets lost taking her brother to baseball camp…at her own high school? The pitching coach, some hotshot high school player, obviously thinks she’s a hot mess. Too bad he’s cute, because he’s so not her type.
Problem is, they keep running into each other, and every interaction sparks hotter than the last. But with Dylan’s future on the line, he has to decide whether some rules are made to be broken…
I received an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review from Entangled Teen Publishing, so I’d like to say a huge thank you to the team there! And also a huge thanks to Chapter By Chapter Blog Tours for allowing me to join!
Dylan Dennings is straight-laced and has his life all planned out. Lucy Foster, on the other hand, goes with the flow and lives day-to-day. When the two meet, they clash, but an undeniable spark keeps them guessing what this could turn out to be. Through the course of their relationship, Dylan learns that letting go and having fun could keep him sane, and Lucy learns that having plans doesn’t mean ruining her fun.
This is the second book I have read by Kendra C. Highly – and also another sports romance by her – and I loved it! This book is centered around baseball, which makes it a perfect summer read. The characters were individually likeable, and when they got together, it made the story even more amazing! (I’m thinking this almost has a Rory and Jess feel, but with the gender roles reversed.)
I am a big sucker for family dynamics in books, and this one did not disappoint. Lucy has a heartfelt relationship with her little brother, mom, and her deployed Army father. Dylan has a bit of a strained relationship with his parents, but learns that they aren’t as judgemental as he thought.
Dylan and Lucy are adorable. I loved their love story, and the ending of this book had me in tears – happy tears! I would definitely recommend this if you are a fan of YA and sports romances!
